Education, not legal advice

Robinson Employment Law Institute is a trade name of Robinson Employment Institute, LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company. RELI is an education provider. It is not a law firm, it does not practise law, and it does not employ attorneys to advise you.

Everything on this Service, including every lesson, trap warning, assessment question, model answer, citation, credential and email, is general information about employment law offered for educational purposes. It is not legal advice, it is not tailored to your facts, and it does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and RELI, the Robinson Family Trust, any course author, or any attorney who reviewed the content.

What attorney review means

Before a jurisdiction module is published, a licensed attorney reviews it and signs off, and that reviewer's identity and signing date are recorded permanently. Each lesson shows the date its citations were last verified against the primary source. That review is a quality control on our teaching materials. It is not a legal opinion addressed to you, and the reviewing attorney is not your attorney.

Law changes

Statutes, regulations, agency guidance and court decisions change, sometimes without notice. A lesson that was accurate on its verification date may be out of date when you read it. Confirm any requirement against the current primary source, or with counsel, before you act on it.

Ranks and credentials

RELI ranks are awarded by RELI on completion of RELI assessments. They are not licences, certifications by any government body or bar association, continuing-legal-education credit, or a representation that the holder is qualified to give legal advice. Holding a RELI credential does not authorise anyone to practise law, and a person who is not a licensed attorney may not give legal advice to others in North Carolina (N.C. Gen. Stat. 84-4) or in any other state, regardless of any training completed.

Compliance is your responsibility

Completing a RELI course does not make you or your organisation compliant with any law, and is not a defence to any claim, charge or audit. Employers remain responsible for their own policies, decisions and record-keeping. Where a course describes what the law generally requires, your circumstances, collective agreements, contracts, federal preemption and local ordinances may change the answer.

When you need a lawyer

If you have a specific question about your own situation, an employee, a claim or an investigation, you need advice from a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction. The North Carolina State Bar's lawyer referral service can help North Carolina residents find one: [LRS CONTACT DETAILS]. We will also, on request, point you to employment counsel; doing so is a courtesy, not a recommendation, and we receive no fee for it.
